When I Grow Up…
Think back to when you were a little kid. What did you want to be when you “grew up?” Did you have deaf and hard of hearing role models to look up to? Take a look around this site and you’ll find deaf and hard of hearing people doing all kinds of jobs.
If you’re a parent of a deaf or hard of hearing child, the world has so many possibilities for your child. At a parent meeting one day, a mom was telling the audience how her little son talked about being a fireman someday. “A part of me was sad,” she said. “I know there are things he won’t be able to do.”
That’s not true, I explained. “I know several firemen, both deaf and hard of hearing.”
Her eyes lit up. She had no idea that it was possible. A new road was opened up for her child. Yes, deaf and hard of hearing children can dream and pursue many options. This website aims to show the wide variety of jobs, careers and callings that deaf and hard of hearing adults are pursuing each day.
Aim high.
